Fresh starts

I was part of two fresh starts yesterday. In the morning, we introduced someone we’re hoping to bring on as a part-time pastor at Richview. It was exciting to see people meet him and to sense the enthusiasm in the air. Then, in the evening, I attended a friend’s induction service as he’s started in a new church. Enthusiasm doesn’t begin to describe this guy. I love fresh starts and newness. I got thinking last night that it’s a little like the newlywed stage – all hope and excitement, good, but I sure wouldn’t want to stay there or go back. There’s also something to be said for staying and for a more mature kind of love that can only develop over time. It’s not as exciting, but it’s probably underrated. I’m sure these guys are going to see it happen. And it was cool to hear my friend Tai talking about having a yabba-dabba-doo time from the pulpit again.
