Nicky Gumble

I’m watching Nicky Gumble, creator of the Alpha course, on Michael Coren Live. Actually, I get to meet Nicky in a few days at an Alpha conference. I have mixed feelings about Alpha. On one level, I’m a fan. On another, I’m always wary about one-size-fits-all programs. We seem so quick to latch on programs as answers to everything. I’m curious to see if they’ll come up with a version that’s adapted more to the postmodern world. But I have to say: I like Nicky. He’s winsome and just seems like a really cool guy. The last time I saw him, I was in the balcony of Holy Trinity Brompton as he pronounced the benediction. Makes me miss that whole England experience (minus my father’s dementia, of course). Another reminder of the power of a person who lives out his/her real and growing relationship with Christ.
