The dangers of leading transformation

Brian McLaren, interviewed in Net Results:

A pastor trying to help his church transform to reach postmoderns is caught between two constituencies: the ninety-nine who are there or the one who wandered away. Or, in a postmodern twist, now the ninety-nine have wandered. If we abandon the one to search for the ninety-nine, the remaining one really feels alone. To what degree are we religious professionals and to what degree are we missionaries? Do we want a nice career or do we want to reach the lost? Missionaries are often martyred.
