Two Pictures – Same Church

I saw two pictures of our church this week. Scene One – A business meeting, a week ago. Some speeches, motions, difficult discussions. I saw what Richview used to be, and the struggle some are having with what it’s becoming. A tough meeting, some good people who are genuinely struggling with how “their church” is changing. Scene Two – A potluck dinner tonight. A couple of hundred people eating, laughing. Different ages, different cultures. Families. Singles. Seniors. No program, just community. I saw what Richview is becoming, and I liked it very much. I know everybody hates mission and vision statements, but ours talks about becoming a multigenerational, culturally diverse church. At times I lose heart, but it really is happening.
