A Thought, a Quote, and a Resource
A Thought
Engineers design structures to hold more than their expected load. A bridge anticipated to handle 1,000 tons is actually built to withstand 2,000 to 4,000 tons before failure. Every structure is engineered with a safety factor so its capacity far exceeds the demand placed on it.
What is God's love designed to handle? Paul answers that in Romans 8: tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, and the sword. He doesn't stop there. He works through every conceivable category of threat: physical suffering, supernatural powers, every dimension of time and space, and the worst forces the imagination can summon that might come between us and Christ. Paul lists every possible threat that could come against us. He wants us to see that there is no load too great, no force too strong, no circumstance too severe for Christ’s love.
Christ’s love does not bend under pressure. It holds. Nothing can separate you from the love of Christ.
A Quote
“Let us go forward into the future, however dark it is, with this confidence, that, one thing at least we know, — the love of Christ will hold us fast, and by his grace we will hold fast to him. We are married to him, and we shall never be divorced. We are joined to him by a living, loving, lasting union that never shall be broken.”
A Resource
This interview with Ben Sasse was the best thing I heard last week. The entire interview is worth watching, but the last few minutes (from about 1:04:42 on) are exceptional.
