# Still Human

I was a young seminary student. My theology professor threw me and the others in my class a curveball. He asked a simple question: Is Jesus still human?

I’d never considered that exact question before, and it seemed like the kind of question one doesn’t want to get wrong. I thought for a moment before offering the answer: Yes.

To my relief, I was right. I hadn’t spoken heresy. The one mediator between God and men is the *man* Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:5). He lives in his resurrected human body, fully God and fully man.

In a few days we’re celebrating the Incarnation of Jesus: the truth that God the Son became human and entered the world that had rebelled against him. Our salvation and his intercession depend on this truth. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth,” John writes (John 1:14).

I marvel that God the Son *became* human. I marvel too that he *remains* human. His incarnation was no temporary measure. “Advent is a chance not only to celebrate Jesus’ *taking* of human flesh but also his *keeping* of it” ([David Mathis](https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/jesus-is-still-human?ref=dashhouse.com)).

That’s worth celebrating this Christmas.
