A Forge response (PDF) to *[Becoming Conversant with the Emerging Church](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0310259479/dashhouse-20?ref=dashhouse.com)*, suggesting that “Contextualisation must always remain a subset of missions and not the other way around.” Great work by Michael Frost and Alan Hirsch. Via [Hamo](http://www.backyardmissionary.com/2005/07/forge-responds-to-carson-2.html?ref=dashhouse.com). **Update**: I see this document as a good thing but it’s already generating some [controversy](http://www.backyardmissionary.com/2005/07/forge-responds-to-carson-2.html?ref=dashhouse.com#comment-2500):

> I continue to believe that position papers that draw lines within the emerging church, taking sides for and against organizations, and the like will be supremely unhelpful, and I ask people to please STOP IT.

I disagree. Something that responds to appropriate criticisms and highlights the diversity and messiness inherent in the emerging church is very good, much better than pretending it’s monolithic. I don’t mind the mess. **Second update**: At the request of [Hamo](http://www.backyardmissionary.com/2005/07/forge-carson.html?ref=dashhouse.com), I’ve taken down the link to the paper.
