# Fellowship Baptists and the emerging storm

As [Stephen Shields](http://faithmaps.blogspot.com/2005/01/emergent-criticism-emerging-church.html?ref=dashhouse.com) and others have noted, 2005 is the year that the emerging church will get a lot of attention and criticism. This is going to hit in a lot of places – one of them being [my denomination](http://www.fellowship.ca/?ref=dashhouse.com). If the Fellowship has a patron saint, it would be [D.A. Carson](http://www.tiu.edu/people/faculty/carson.htm?ref=dashhouse.com). He was one of us; he is my alma mater’s most famous graduate. Every time he speaks at one of our meetings, he packs the place out. His book, [*Becoming Conversant with Emergent*](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0310259479/dashhouse-20?ref=dashhouse.com), is coming out next month, and it’s going to get a lot of buzz. [Carla Rolfe](http://carla%5Frolfe.blogspot.com/?ref=dashhouse.com) is another Fellowship Baptist. She’s been busy setting up [a website devoted to critiquing (or criticizing) the emerging church](http://members.tripod.com/carla%5Fb/emergentmovement/index.html?ref=dashhouse.com). I have an article coming out in the next issue of our [denominational magazine](http://www.fellowship.ca/eb/default.htm?ref=dashhouse.com) called *Evaluating the Emerging Church*. There will be a [discussion board](http://www.fellowship.ca/theology/default.htm?ref=dashhouse.com) on our denomination’s website following the article. The one a few months back on [missional churches](http://www.fellowship.ca/theology/missional/?ref=dashhouse.com) got interesting. I’m starting to wonder what I’ve got myself into. It’s going to be an interesting couple of months in the Fellowship.
