Toronto the Good

I'm hugely impressed with the Work Research Foundation. In fact, I hope to get to know them better than I do right now.
They've just come out with with a new study that's going to be a big help to those of us who are called to Toronto:
This investigative report brings urban centres and their religious institutions back into the dialogue of city building. Inside Toronto the Good you will find substantial, qualitative and original investigations with bearing on the problems and potentials in the city of Toronto, and its communities of faith and hope.
Toronto the Good is designed to connect hundreds of municipal, business, social service and municipal leaders with an interactive research initiative meant to change their understanding of city building, and the place of the church in the city.
The study is available for free as a download. I'm going to be reading it very carefully.

I heard Ray Pennings speak at TBS last fall and was very impressed. I'll be downloading that too!
Looking forward to your thoughts Darryl, looks lame to me. Scroll down to what they think the church should be doing. Don't see much in there about the Great Commission. If the Church in downtown Toronto were to get serious about that, I wonder what kind of an impact that would have on church/city relationships.
I think if the church were to just be the church and do what God calls us to do, God would work through that and it would cause quite a stir. As I study my way through the book of Acts that's what I see. The church goes out and proclaims the Gospel and people either believe and are transformed by the Holy Spirit or there is great opposition.
What if the church were to get back to those basics? These guys just want everyone to get along and cooperate with each other.
Everybody just wants to get along but when you start proclaiming Jesus Christ as the only way, watch out, all hell will break loose. But that's what God uses, isn't it? The proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ? I don't see that in their recommendations of what the church should do. Admittedly that's just a quick glance through and then a read of what they think the church should do. You are going to be reading it very carefully, maybe you will share your thoughts?
I heard these guys at a conference in Hamilton last year and when I asked them about the Gospel, they were at a loss for words. I felt like I was at a lecture on how the church should get political.
George:
I look forward to reading it. So far, in skimming it, it looks Keller-esque. Reminds me of Redeemer's approach.
Also reminds me of something I saw on a church's website today: they are "a city-centred church whose desire is the renewal of our beautiful yet broken city, Toronto, through a movement of the gospel of Jesus Christ, to the glory of God."
