I love and hate Apple
I hate Apple...my MacBook Pro's hard drive has failed and it's less than a year old. It's in for repair and it won't be back until the week is almost over.
I love Apple...thanks to SuperDuper! I have an up-to-date mirror of the failed drive on an external disk. I just plugged it into Charlene's iMac, booted from the external drive, and I've been working as if it's my computer all day.
Can't figure out what to think about this crazy company.

I tried to warn you, but alas, I knew you'd have problems...pride goers before a fall.
To me, Apple is the ultimate geek cult icon. They have built a loyal following that simply adores any product they make. My brother-in-law, a PC devotee, recently went over to the dark side and can't begin to sing the praises of his Mac enough -- "I just plugged it [a peripheral device] in, and it worked ... no searching for drivers and then installing them."
I used a Mac desktop at my first job out of seminary when I went back into engineering to make a living. It was a weird mix in a technical environment, but I must confess that I liked it, especially in a pre-Windows 3.0 world, i.e., no GUI, just MS-DOS. You know what a fan I am of my iPod. The Zune simply is no comparison in my opinion.
The only catch for me remains price. I'm simply not willing in most cases to pay the price of Apple's products. I just can't convince myself to pay over $1,000 for a desktop just because Apple won't allow Mac clones the way that PCs did, which is probably the ONLY reason we don't all live in a Mac world instead of a PC world. Same thing with laptops -- not willing to pay twice as much.
As my Canadian friends are wont to say, "De gustibus non disputandum, eh?"
Still better than living with the nightmare scenarios so many PC-users choose to live with. I've been using my 3 year-old Powerbook in the worst environments imaginable for the past three years, including two trips around the world, and it runs as well as it did when I bought it.
Hang in there, man. Dr.Steve will make it all better!
