Pastoral expectations and pressure

I always hesitate to post on the negative aspects of pastoring because every calling has its pressures. I hate to make it sound like pastors have it harder than anyone else. Pastors have benefits that many others don't enjoy: a front row seat in people's lives, a great deal of flexibility, and the opportunity to do meaningful work.

But I can attest to the fact that there is some pressure involved as well. Mark D. Roberts has been doing an excellent series on the topic, including on how to manage expectations. You can check it out here.

Yes- having been in both the business pressure world and the ministry pressure world, I can say without hesitation that the pressures I feel in ministry far outweighs what I felt running a business. Even with 20 employees, the pressure was different. It didn't seem as personal somehow...

Having said that, I'm not sure I'd ever go back.

Thanks, Darryl, for the recommendation and the link! Peace, Mark
