God's leadership model

From Leading with a Limp by Dan Allender:

Here is God's leadership model: he chooses fools to live foolishly in order to reveal the economy of heaven, which reverses and inverts the wisdom of this world. He calls us to brokenness, not performance; to relationships, not commotion; to grace, not success. It is no wonder that this kind of leadership is neither spoken of nor admired in our business schools or even our seminaries.

That was a very useful summary; succinctly put. Thanks. Greg

Here's a fellow pastor for you all, sharing how he leads from such (rare) position of brokenness.

Part A Embracing Inadequacy --Excerpt from Dwight Edwards' REVOLUTION WITHIN

'Because my father died when I was young, there were many things I never learned growing up, including basic tasks like house repairs and car maintenance. One of the most important skills I failed to pick up was leadership.

As a result, I've spent most of my life running from it. Frankly, I find leadership–-whether at home or church–-to be scary. A part of me would love to always follow and let someone else take the risks. But God hasn't seen fit to allow this. For whatever reason, He's placed me in many situations requiring me to lead.

What has helped me in leadership more than anything else has been learning to embrace my inadequacy.

(It’s one thing to admit inadequacy; it’s a very different thing to embrace it.)

When a difficult decision must be made or a hard situation handled, I’m helped most by going before the Lord and saying something like…
“Lord, I don’t have a clue what to do here. I’m fearful and would love to not be in this situation. Heaven looks really good now, and this would be a great time for You to come back.
“But if that can’t be, then I need You to take me through this every step of the way. I have nothing to offer of my own ingenuity or strength; I need your wisdom and power as badly as I need the air I breathe.
“As I move forward, help me to do so with desperate dependence upon You every second. I joyously and unreservedly confess that I’m not a leader, I’m not able to handle this situation on my own, and any good must come solely through You. I simply ask You now to flow through me, lord Jesus, and help me stay our of Your way.”

Unless I begin by embracing my inadequacy in this way, I up either leading in my flesh or backing away altogether.

Hey Darryl,
Thanks for sharing that quote, I copied it to my blog and shared it with a friend. It means a lot to me right now. I appreciate how God uses each of us to encourage, even when we don't know it sometimes! Thanks again!
