Don't cross the floor

A new government is being sworn in, and a former Liberal cabinet minister has crossed the floor and joined the Conservative cabinet. His personal website still shows the Liberal logo.

I don't know how you can run for one party and join another one a couple of weeks later. What's changed except you were on the losing side?

I hope Harper passes legislation calling for an automatic by-election when this takes place.

Keep hoping.
I'm sorry Darryl, I don't expect electoral reform out of a party and cabinet that just stood by while David Emerson was sworn in today.

Why bother voting?

I'm not quite sure I understand the shock at the politics of pragmatism. We elected politicians, not priests. Right or wrong, Harper has done what he believes is best for his country.

He hasn't shovelled public money into his political party through surreptitious means, he hasn't rewarded former cabinet ministers who are "entitled to their entitlements", he hasn't sold his share in a money losing hotel and then had the Canadian Business Development Bank back the purchasers loan (who then reneges on it) and the list goes on. Everybody take a deep breath.
