That is HILARIOUS!
That has to be a parody website but then again, nothing else is really funny on the site.
Nothing from any church with the word "united" in its name suprises me anymore.
Rats! They've changed their site already.
I understand that the church will be offering a statement soon on their website explaining that someone hacked into their system and put up that piece of scripture.
I received a response from St. James. They did not deserve the blog firestorm, they are embarrassed by the hack, and Darryl, I commend you and Rev. Mike for your humour and restraint.
It was funny until I saw the spit flying around a few blogs today. Guilty until proven innocent.
It's amazing how good that RSS feeds and blogs are at causing a firestorm where none existed previously. The quote was an egregious one that was taken out of context when it was pulled from a Bibilical quote engine on the web. As soon as we were told about the error we corrected the issue.
There were no hackers involved...this was not a marketing stunt...we are not a church of Satan worshippers.
This should be two lessons for everyone:
1. ALWAYS proof your materials more than once.
2. NEVER count on the whole truth from blogs.
Honest...it was a mistake. To those who were kind enough to tell us about our mistake, thank you. This gives me a much greater appreciation for John 8:7. ( I won't quote it for obvious reasons.)

St. James has put up a statement on the website.
I still think the original post at Between Two Worlds was fair. Even honest mistakes are fair game for public comment.
Some of the resulting comments were less gracious perhaps. But we can all learn from this and, I hope, move on now.
This is more than fair to point out. Regardless of how the quote came to be there (hackers, google, whatever) the fact is that no one from that church community, in looking at their site was able to see this.
An honest mistake... ok.
But also, a shocking case of biblical illiteracy. :)
