The dog experiment that failed
It's been four months since we brought a black lab-hound home from the pound. We've survived the destruction of his crate and the neighboring carpet and computer, a trip to the behaviorist, and all kinds of incidents I haven't blogged.
Last Sunday, we came home from church to find that Buddy had gone on another rampage in the house. Nothing valuable was damaged, but we were lucky. What surprised us the most is that Buddy was on Valium that morning. Yes, they prescribe Valium for dogs. Charlene figured it was a good idea since it could be used on me or the dog, depending on what happened.
We've finally realized our little dog experiment has failed. We are not going to be the ones who can get him over his separation anxiety.
It's too bad, since he really is a good dog when we're around, and we've invested a lot in making this work. But dogs that come from pounds sometimes have issues.
So, we're looking for a new home for the dog. He'll make an excellent pet for someone who is home more than we are, and can give him enough exercise. But it's not going to be us.
If you know of anyone who's up to the challenge, let me know.
I admire you trying to help a damaged dog.
It's going to take someone very special to take care of him.
I wonder how he would fare with another big dog to keep him company? Nah.....Even if I survived the first night, I still don't think I'm up to sleeping in the dog-house again.

i really cannot believe that i am reading this and you are actually going to do this...
unfortunately, i don't like the decision that you have made but the final decision is yours to decide....
i really hate seeing you do this.....but i just hope you made the right decision for your sake and the buddy's too....
Having read and heard of your troubles with this dog, I'm surprised it took you this long...
I know all of you will be disappointed but you did give it a great try.
I was going to suggest Art but it seems he's already declined. Too bad - he has experience with dogs with "issues".

It didn't take me this long, but Charlene is very patient. She always talked about Buddy being such a good looking dog. This is proof that looks can only take you so far.
I mentioned to Patti in passing, very nonchalantly, that Buddy was being banished from your home.
Her first words were: "Don't even think it!!" My boss has spoken.
I'm surprised at your choice being a pastor and all. What would Jesus do? His love is would persevere I bet.
