Darryl's Blog

I'm back

Almost two weeks ago, this blog disappeared. Why? Because I believed this paragraph from Movable Type: "Simple installation: Once the application is on your web server, installing or upgrading the system is as simple as a few clicks."

Yeah, right.

It's actually not Movable Type's fault. This site has been hosted at Westhost for three years. For whatever reason, this latest version required a Perl module that's common but pretty much impossible to install at Westhost.

I've learned more about Perl modules, root access, and mySQL dumps than I ever wanted to know.

Thanks to those who e-mailed to find out what was going on. I enjoyed the break for a while, but I'm glad to have my blog back.

Glad to have seen my last mySQL dump for a while as well. I can only hope.

Hey Darryl, welcome back. No comment really. Just didn't like seeing all those "comments (0)" figures. in your wonderful blog. You'll get your loyal readers back. All it takes is good marketing and charisma. You know, just like growing a church :) .

Ken:

I don't understand. When I go on vacation attendance at the church goes up. Figured it would happen here too. ;)

I apologize, I was going to offer you temporary blog shelter and hadn't filled in the log in info in the email until today, went to hit send and thought I'd see what the situation was.
Glad you are back.:^)

Welcome back! I'm not sure what kind of dump an SQL is, but I hear that immodium can work wonders on that kind of thing.
