Important books
I plan on asking this question to significant people when I meet them, so I may as well start with you. What books are so good that you read them over and over (besides the Bible)?

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
"The Myth of Certainty: The Reflective Christian & The Risk of Commitment" - Daniel Taylor.
(Runners-up: "A Prayer for Owen Meany" - John Irving; "Lord of the Rings". But these two aren't 'important' so much as good.)
The Red Tent by Anita Diamante -- I read this and it changed the way I read the Bible. In a good way, I think. (though by our friends at Emergent No, I'd be labelled a heretic for saying so)
I also loved Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott. I want to read her next book.
Christianity for Modern Pagans by Peter Kreeft.
"Pattern for Living" - Alex W. Ness
"He Chose the Nails" - Max Lucado
"Mere Christianity" - C.S. Lewis
"Transformed Temperaments" - Tim LaHaye
"In His Steps" - Charles Sheldon
"The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy and "The Hobbit" - Tolkien
If I had to choose only ONE of the above, I would probably opt for Sheldon. No, Lucado. I love his books. Well, maybe Lewis. No, wait.... LaHaye helped me a lot. But Ness did as well. ... Oh, I give up!
The Pursuit of God - AW Tozer
Jonathan Kellerman, Faye Kellerman, Elizabeth George, Andrew Vachss, Patricia Cornwall,James Lee Burke, John Sanford,(Kidd series)Kathy Reich
They are all mysteries or mystery series.
I'd sit down anytime and re-read them if I could, and thats sure more than one book.
Guess I don't quite belong in this crowd:^)
Hmmm... interesting question. In fairness to myself, I'm not sure I can give you only one book... there are so many that have been transformational for me... beyond the Bible of course.
Resident Aliens - Hauerwas & Willimon
Foolishness to the Greeks - Leslie Newbigin
Rich Christians in An Age of Hunger - Ron Sider
Transforming Missions - David Bosch
A New Kind of Christian - McLaren
Expereincing God - Blackaby (sp?)
Walk on Water (just like Jesus) - Max Lucado
Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire - Jim Cymbala
... o.k... enough.
Blessed Easter!

Right now I would say "The Imitation of Christ" by Thomas A Kempis."Praying the Scriptures" had a significant impact on my prayer life.
Becky: I too appreciated the earthy, human perspectives of 'The Red Tent'.
Bene: there's always room for you!
"Why Revival Tarries" by Lenord Ravenhill
Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller
Prophetic Imagination by Walter Brueggemann
Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster
Anything by Tolkien - I read LotR, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion at least once a year
Bene: I love that stuff too, and read it as often as I can. One of my favourite secular authors is Wilbur Smith. I have all his books and have read several of them more than once. Join the club!
