An article I wrote for The Evangelical Baptist has now been posted (in PDF format):
I find myself to be a bit of an apologist for the Emerging Church, not because I am blind to its faults, but because I believe it has sometimes been misunderstood and unfairly criticized. As I hope to make clear, I believe we should be concerned about some aspects of the Emerging Church movement. However, I also believe that the Emerging Church has something important to say. We need to engage in some of the questions it raises without dismissing it prematurely.
There's a discussion board on the article (read the ground rules first) as well.
Well done, Darryl! The article is one of the most concise explanations of "The Emerging Church" I have read, and does a terrific job of elucidating just what it means to be "emergent."
Even I can understand it now.
Strange thing is, it describes me! I guess I am, and have long been, "emergent" without knowing it. I refer, of course, to the four points at the end of the article describing the areas from which you have learned.
Maybe there is hope after all of me finding a church at which I can feel at home. Know any good ones out my way?
"elucidating"? Come on... who's out there posting under Arthur's name?!
Oh, come on now, Charlene! I was all proud of myself over that one!
