I've been thinking about this all weekend.Don't know Joel Osteen. May I ask why it is such a crisis for him to be the most popular preacher in America?
It's not my style to do exposes of other preachers. Just as well, because Michael Spencer has done it for us. He believes (rightfully, I think) that we should be concerned.
Backing up a bit: I believe one of our major tasks over the next decade will be to re-articulate the Gospel, not just at a theological level, but at the level of every church. Can't help but get excited about that.
This guy is a wolf. Good post.
Jacob.
Oh. A touchy-feely, feel-good, do-nothing type gospel. Didn't Paul warn us about wolves in sheeps clothing?
I kinda liked John Osteen, way back when. Even read some of his books. Too bad his son has gone off the rails.
Thanks for the enlightenment.
I HAVE WATCHED MR. OSTEEN ON TELEVISION AND TO BE FRANK I THINK HE HAS ALOT OF GOOD THINGS TO SAY, IT IS WHAT HE IS NOT SAYING THAT DISTURBS ME. MR OSTEEN IS QUICK TO SPOUT THE VIRTUES OF KNOWING GOD AND HIS SON JESUS AS HIS PERSONAL SAVIOR. BUT WHAT HE IS FORGETTING, IS THAT THERE IS A PENELTY FOR SIN AND HE FAILS TO MENTION THAT. I AM SOON TO BE 50 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE NEVER PAID TO BE IN A CHUCH SERVICE. IN HIS UPCOMMIONG SPEAKING ENGAGMENTS THIS SUMMER HIS TICKET PRICES, AND YES I DID SAY "TICKET PRICES" FROM 45.00 TO 110.00 DOLLERS.I GUESS THE GOSPEL DOES HAVE A PRICE ACCORDING TO MR. OSTEEN. AND HE IS WILLING TO GET PAID FOR HIS SERVICES.
Joel is the most awesome person I have ever heard! He deliveres the best messages!I wish everyone could think like him!!!!!!!!!!!!
