Technology

Technology plays an integral role in nearly every contemporary form of overload. Similarly, the resisting of technology plays an equally important role in the suggested prescriptions...All the countries with the most time-saving technologies are the most stressed-out countries, a statement that is easy to prove sociologically. (Richard A. Swenson, A Minute of Margin)

Why does this statement have to be true?

It has to be true for the simple reason that the sheer volume of information, often from conflicting sources and in a postmodern context, lacking a reliable framework for interpretation, overwhelms our decision-making faculties. Nearly all of this information requires us to make a decision at some level. Add to that the pace at which it is received and the need for reduced reaction times, and it all seems pretty clear.

Be careful what you ask for, eh?

I'd answer your question in more detail, but I have someone on hold, somebody else on the other line, and a third trying to page me......

Gotta go!
