Char's Blog
June 2005 Archives
Life has been very "full" lately and my blog entries have been non-existant. However, flipping through TWU's summer course calendar, my attention was caught by a "Retreat Course" on the life of Thomas Merton. There's plenty of online info on Merton of course. This particular Merton quote, found by way of The Quotations Page strongly resonates with me:
The truth that many people never understand, until it is too late, is that the more you try to avoid suffering the more you suffer because smaller and more insignificant things begin to torture you in proportion to your fear of being hurt.Thomas Merton
US religious author, clergyman, & Trappist monk (1915 - 1968)
Perhaps I will create my own "retreat" on Merton!
Spent today with the HPAS school community enjoying our annual Play Day in High Park. Kudos to all who organized this terrific event! Unfortunately no photos... I was too busy chasing a great number of very energetic children!
If you're looking for a phonecall from an "old friend" I suggest a blog posting with a link to an online profile! Within days I received not the standard email form of communication but a phone call no less! I have greatly underestimated the power of my blog!! This is a first in approximately three years (during which time I will note, in his defense, that I have not called him either.)
He has some concern that I not bring direpute to his position of Councillor with the City of Abbotsford. Fully respecting his wishes I have revised my link one that is more acceptable for him. While I can not say with certainty, he alluded to the grey coverage in his respective photos. No discernable difference from my perspective. (For a brief moment I posted photos from the respective sites but upon further reflection I recognized that the following images would be more entertaining!)
