Disconnected

One of the surprises of my sabbatical: I'm enjoying being unplugged from some distractions, like Facebook. I deactivated my Facebook account at the start of June, and I'm enjoying it so much that I deleted it a couple of days ago:

If I can keep myself from logging in for two weeks, my account will be gone. Facebook doesn't make this easy, but here's how to do it.

I might go back on at some point, and populate my friends list with actual friends.

I'm also pruning the list of people I follow on Twitter, and the number of blogs I follow. It feels surprisingly good.

I'm with you all the way;I've been pruning the Google Reader and Twitter accounts for a few weeks now, and took my Facebook profile down to nothing but a photo and a "here's where to reach me" just last week. It definitely feels like three steps in the right direction.

One can only stay just so plugged into the Matrix. Hope I make the cut, dude. ;)

I know it can sound offensive for pointing it out but all these combined techno-"helps" so easily transform into little gods and contribute to idolatry. I've said this all along.

I think you are choosing wisely, Darryl. Hope you found your sabbatical restful, refreshing and renewing. Welcome back.
