Historic event? Yes. "Monumentous" Occasion? Certainly. The culmination, perhaps, of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream?" Okay. But for Pete's sake people: Obama is not a messiah, let alone THE Messiah. Walk on water, he cannot. I fear for those who place a mere mortal on such a high pedestal, because err he will. He will fail; he will make mistakes; some of his policies and ideas may very well prove to be detrimental rather than helpful. The most we can do is hope and pray, especially the latter, that he exercise wisdom and integrity. I remember so many who were placed on high pedestals. Remember Swaggart? Jim Bakker? How about Ben Johnson? (for those of us who are Canadian.) The problem of being so highly thought of, even idolized, is that our idols have so far to fall when they fall they do.
It's true, while there are political battles worth firghting for we should never be deluded into thinking there will be utopia here on earth this side of the new heaven and earth.
