Back in business

I received an email from my hosting company yesterday:

Subject: WEB HOSTING ACCOUNT DEACTIVATED for DASHHOUSE.COM

Dear Darryl:

Your web hosting account for dashhouse.com has been deactivated (reason: site causing performance problems).

Although your web site has been disabled, your data may still be available for up to 30 days, after which it will be deleted.

If you feel this deactivation is in error, please contact customer support as soon as possible.

Thank you,
BlueHost.Com Support

Yikes! Not the type of email you want to receive, especially in the middle of a meeting with limited Internet access.

Not surprised that a script could put a demand on the server. It was the comment script, by the way. Looks like someone was really trying to leave a comment. I thought, though, that the host might suspend the account temporarily or disable the script, not just shut the account down. At least keep the emails coming or something. I wasn't too happy to have a complete account shut-down as the first step in resolving a problem.

They reinstated my account, but there's no way I'd stay with them after that.

In any case, I did some research and found that the top rated host at Hostjury is Fused Network, which is located right here in Toronto. (Full disclosure: That's an affiliate link. If you sign up using that link, I get a cut.) I'm up and running with them now. It was the easiest switch I've made; they did most of the work for me. So far I'm very impressed.

The speed of this site should be considerably better now, which is a major plus.

If you notice anything funky going on around here, let me know and I'll try to get it fixed.

Welcome back, bro. I've been busy causing trouble whilst you've been gone. :-)

That's not cool. But at least you got warning. My webhost shut down its whole operation without warning and without any way to contact anyone involved. And they still billed my credit card for a few months without any way to turn it off. It took a call to the BBB to get them to stop charging my card.

Your full of good news. I just entered into a contractual agreement with Bluehost. Now, you spring this on me. . .

Well Gotpreaching, they have a 30 day money back guarantee! :)

Bill: I was counting on you keeping things interesting while I was tied up. Randy: I may have had that same host at one time. Chris: Bluehost offers a 30 day money-back guarantee if you want to back out. I don't know if I'd recommend them, although I went almost three years before this.
