Defense is done

I ran into three others from my class this afternoon before my defense. Two of them were getting their thesis printed onto the right paper for submission and checking. They seemed happy and told me that the examiners said that they expected four of us to pass today from what they had read of our work. I wasn't sure if that boded well for me since I knew there were at least two of us left. The defense was fairly low key. They asked what I had learned and then went through areas they had flagged. Haddon challenged me on one area (the issue of exemplary preaching, as argued by Greidanus). He also let me know when I had overstated things. "I don't buy that," he'd say. Overall they seemed happy with my work. So, I passed! I have about an hour's worth of editing to do but otherwise I'm done. Time to go out and celebrate. I think we'll be heading out to Famous Dave's. We'll save the real celebration at Legal Sea Foods for grad weekend. Snowing like crazy here. Glad I'm not driving down today.

So you had it out with Haddon, right? I mean, you didn't just sit there and take it, did you? Aren't you allowed to throw the gloves down at a defense?

Darryl, Congrats, bro. Can't wait to see you on Monday. But, be forewarned, I ain't gonna be callin' ya Doc anytime soon. Although, come to think on it, Doc Darryl Dash does have a delightful ring. And you're now Triple D. Enjoy Boston.

Dear Darryl Congratulations, well done. You`ll be happy you didn`t respond to Haddon.Haddon and Ryrie used to say "Don`t write anything before you are 40,because you will live to wish you didn`t". Safe home.Gordon and Ruth

Congratulations, Doc! Now that you are driving in Boston (and Cambridge!) here's a joke. Three men arrive at the pearly gates and ask to come in. A priest, a Minister and a Boston Taxi Driver. They plead their case to St. Peter. The priest notes that he served the church faithfully, and was a pure man. The minister noted that he wrote great sermons and led many to Christ. The taxi driver started to talk, but St. Pete said, come on in. And closed the gate, leaving the priest and minister outside, destined for elsewhere. They asked, what's the deal? St. Pete said "You two put people to sleep, but this taxi driver in Boston - he got millions to pray."

SO, do I bow now, or later? :-) Congratulations, Doc. I am proud of you!

Just a few thoughts. Dr. Dash, Sounds like some brand of spice for adding to food doesn't it? Well, sheesh, no one else seems willing to insult you!! I should finish reading your thesis shortly before my hip replacement surgery - 2025. Never confuse a degree with an education. You're a better man than I, and that's no joke. Congratulations. Truly, seriously.

Thanks, all. Ken: If you book now, you may have that surgery by 2025. ;)

Hey, I just had a thought: Can I borrow your parking tag to use when I go to the hospital? You know, for those parking spots that say "For Doctors' Use Only"?

Congrads Darryl. That is awesome. I'm glad to hear you are entering the spiritual discipline of celebration!

I'm very proud of my pastor friend -- not just for all the hard work that went into this, but particularly for the topic that he chose to let himself be drawn into. May its significance only grow expansively, and worshipfully, throughout the rest of his days. Blessings (little:-) brother -- Nj
