Memo to Stephen Harper

We all wish you the best, and it really isn't any of our business, but please learn to hug your kids when you drop them off at school. Update: Calgary Grit adds his thoughts. You have to have seen the Liberal election ads to get his humor. We're not making this up.

The man hasn't even gotten to sit in his kitchen at 1 sussex drive and your attacking him '-) May be the kids are at the age where public displays of affection are not cool! He barely showed emotion during the campaign ... you don't think he would really show much after did you?

And so it begins...I noticed that the Globe & Mail had a piece about Harper avoiding talking with the guy looking into that one Conservative MP recording the Liberal MPs bribing him... Such is politics...
Don't worry, I'd offer this advice to him even if he was still Leader of the Opposition. ;) I'm still rooting for the guy, much like I would any new prime minister.
"The only time I shake hands with my kids is to be goofy." So, when do you ever do anything other than shake their hands, Goofy? I mean, Darryl? Sorry, I am with Harper on this one.... He was probably thinking of his daughter's feelings. He might be comfortable being on the world's stage and in the public eye, but his daughter must surely be less so. My first impression when I watched this on the news last night? "Thank God this is Canada!" I couldn't imagine this happening anywhere in the States without an army of Secret Service Types being in evidence.
The post is tongue-in-cheek so I hope nobody's taking it too seriously. He can do whatever he wants to say goodbye to his kids. I'm sure they're all okay with it. But Arthur, if he wanted to keep his kids out of the public eye, then shaking hands might not have been the smartest approach. That drew attention to him and the kids. A hug or pat on the back or even a wave and it would have hardly been noticed.
You are probably right, Darryl. Thing is... without taking any of this too seriously.... I remember the rare occasions when Dad visited my school. I didn't even want to be seen on the same block, never mind have him pat me on the back. Ummm..... before anyone gets the impression that there was something wrong with my Dad: It wasn't him I was concerned about. I was just so self conscious back then I couldn't stand it.
maybe he gave his kids a big hug and kiss in the house before they left and said don't worry, I won't embarass you when we get to school ... we'll do something cool ... like a pat on the back and shake hands ... real man stuff '-)
