I switched
Thursday, February 3, 2005 at 1:45PM
It was a throw-away comment that did it in the end: I had to use a PC today in order to run Exact Target to do a mailing. I was stunned and astonished at how much the experience has degraded since my last exposure. There were dozens of pop ups and flashing lights and buzzers and it was awfully frightening.Yes! I've been fighting Windows for a long time, and I haven't been winning. I can handle most problems, but eventually they wear you down and you give up. I've wanted to switch to Mac for a long time. The hardware isn't expensive, contrary to what you've been told, but it is a bit of a pain to switch. The more stuff you've got on Windows, the more the hassle. Well, I'm doing it. So far I love the feel of OS X. I keep discovering new things and think, "Why doesn't Windows do that?" It's elegant and it just feels better. There. I've done it. I have a feeling I'll be posting a lot of PC stuff on eBay pretty soon.

You may live to regret it from what friends have told me.
Yay Darryl! Welcome to the Alliance. The power of the dark side is strong, but the Mac will set you free! Well... Let's not get carried away. Only Christ can do that freedom thing. But the Mac is cool.
Macs are aweful I had to ultimately return my G5 and come nack to a PC, way more reliable.
Seems like there's no middle ground with these things.
welcome Darryl ...
...Macs are good machines ... my father has used them for years ... in the web publishing world they still do well. When I can justify another computer I too will buy a Mac!
First gay marriage in Canada, now Darryl has a Mac. There is an evil agenda here!
LT, you're just cranky cuz you can't build one from scratch. ;)
Ummm. I dunno. Appears that the vote is split right down the middle to me. Maybe you had better wait before auctioning off your old stuff, eh? Well, maybe not, on second thought. A techno-geek like yourself will use any excuse to get a new gizmo. If the Mac doesn't work out as planned, you'll just go get another new PC, anyway.
I never had strong feelings in the MAC vs. PC conflict. But this past summer, we were in the market for a new computer. A friend of ours works part-time at the local Apple store and is an absolute zealot. He alerted us to a good deal and we got an eMac. We're very happy with it. It's so user-friendly and reliable. It seems crash-proof as well as virus-proof. For non-technos like us, it's great.
I used to have a Mac but switched back. The bells and whistles didn't weigh up against reliability and versatility.
Yippee! Welcome to the mac-side. Jeff and I have found lots of awesome scripts and stuff. We're only an email away! - gotta love being able to access unix! (posted from my pretty and highly functional ibook G4)
Good News for Darryl!Darryl Dash, notorious"switcher" from the Great White North, should be elated beyond measure. First off, he'll be thrilled to know that he is riding the wave of a fad (see #7), albeit by a degree or two of separation. Second,...
