Don't fear Institution
Sunday, September 5, 2004 at 5:04AM This post is from the defunct blog "Dying Church"
From Maggi Dawn:There's no need to fear Institution. The institution has many outstanding and hard won benefits, and by Emerging from within, instead of marching off in a huff, we could have the best of both worlds. Institutions, like hedges and trees, need lots of regular pruning. But if you prune them right they don't need cutting down. Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot.

That is really such an important point to make as so many are bailing out of churches of one kind or another, so disillusioned with established structures that they are angry with the very idea of structure itself. But just because a skeleton isn't warm and cuddly doesn't mean it isn't an important and living part of the body. Though our bodies are corrupt, God hasn't chosen to abandon them. We are physical beings, incomplete unless clothed with flesh, so God will raise these bodies from the dust. He is doing the same thing with the created world. Why shouldn't he do the same thing with our cultures? Let's not become gnostics in our frustration.
