Weak leaders

It's then that God's Word jumps out at me... "not by strength, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord." How does that fly in light of our "professional" approach to church? By that I mean, we want the perfect leaders in our leadership positions... Here's what I'm saying, I understand the need for leadership in positions of leadership - i.e. God's Word does say, "If your gift is leading - lead with all dilligence!" But who decides whether they're the leader that God accepts? How do we establish the qualifications for people that lead? Are they really based on God's way of doing things - or are they, really, more based on marketplace values? How do we factor in the following statements into leadership or even, as pastors, into our preaching? "God uses the foolish things of the world." or this one which I love..."when I first came to you I didn't use lofty words and brilliant ideas to tell you God's message...I came to you in weakness - timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. I did not use wise and persuasive speeches, but the Holy Spirit was powerful among you. I did this so that you might trust the power of God rather than human wisdom."... I don't have all the answers - but here's some things I think it means - not all people that we have in leadership should be leaders, and also, not everyone we exclude from leadership should be excluded.

I ran my own company asa consultant and had 38 people under me. I am big on leadership, but I have to agree with you about Church. There seems to be much talk about leadership and very few leaders. To lead like Jesus is what we are called to do. That is scary because it may require my being cruciifed. Nice to have found your blog. Many blessings, Rick
