Post-vacation reflections

I'm back in the work groove again. My to-do list is a mile high, and I've got way more to do than is reasonable. Some insights from my vacation are helping me out, though. Camping is not completely restful. It's actually quite a bit of work. There's one main difference between camping and everyday life. It's not the work, but the lack of hurry. There were only a couple of times on the trip that we had to hurry to meet a deadline, and both times we felt the stress level rise. I learned something important. Work doesn't tire me, not usually. Hurry does. I know, everyone has to hurry sometimes. The problem is that my life easily slips into hurry mode all the time. That's why I often feel like I'm skimming, hunting fleas instead of elephants as they say. This Fall, I'm going to do some reading on finding rhythm and living sanely, with a bit more internal space. Who knows if I'll do any better. At least I've identified something I need to work on.

I'm with you. I hate feeling as if I'm constantly in a hurry. I wonder what we miss living like that. I'm amazed at how much I notice when I slow down. I'm also going to try to slow down and figure out how to find rhythm and live sanely. If you figure it out first, let me know.

Why don't you use the time you'd save from reading more books about time management and just use sanctified instincts. It might surprise you that the simplicity of life is only a step away.

Yes, it would seem that taking less time to think and reflect would lead to more time available. In reality, I've found the opposite is the case. You'd be amazed at the time I haven't spent reading about rhythm and it hasn't made me less frazzled.

Darryl, you are a Dash. There's no way you are going to be able to live sanely, - even if you do figure out how to find rhythm.

Sorry, I forgot to mention: If you are looking for something to work on, Darryl, my wife has a "honey-do" list I haven't even looked at yet!

If you want to take life a little slower, you should join us in Calgary .. seems to be the norm here.
