Proof that I really am stupid

Last night, I went to bed last for a change. I didn't realize the front door was left completely open with only an unlocked screen door between us and the world. Woke up to this news item:
Police say there were other incidents in the area just hours before the slaying and are warning people to use extreme caution when travelling from the TTC loop at the Toronto-Etobicoke border to the apartment complexes south of the Gardiner Expressway and various businesses along The Queensway.
A murder took place the night before right down the street from us. If you needed proof that I'm stupid, you now have it.

Toronto the good eh? You don't hear that term too much anymore eh? Here's a quiz, can anyone tell me how Toronto got that reputation in the first place and how that term came about?

It was sometime in the 1800s when Toronto had become kind of morally bankrupt and there was a whole lot of sinning going on. A particular man, I don't recall his name, ran for mayor with the promise that he was going to clean up Toronto. He won and set about to do what he promised. (that would be refreshing if that happened these days eh?)Through this process Toronto became known as Toronto the Good. And now you know the rest of the story.

Am I my brothers keeper?A young man falls off a roof and dies. A tourtist yells at another tourist to stop giving to beggars. A murder happens down the street. The general approach, which you find in all the oh-so wise guide books, is that you should ignore beggars, because i...
