Dangerous Wonder

This post is from the defunct blog "Dying Church"

Found via backyard missionaries:
What happened to radical Christianity, the un-nice brand of Christianity that turned the world upside down? What happened to the category smashing, life threatening anti-institutional gospel that spread through the first century like wildfire and was considered (by those in power) dangerous? What happened to the kind of Christians whose hearts were on fire, who had no fear, who spoke the truth no matter the consequence, who made the world uncomfortable, who were willing to follow Jesus wherever he went? What happened to the kind of Christians who were filled with passion and gratitude who everyday were unable to get over the grace of God? I'm ready for a Christianity that ruins my life that captures my heart and makes me uncomfortable. I want to be filled with an astonishment that is so captivating that I am considered wild and unpredictable and... well... dangerous! Yes I want to be dangerous to a dull and boring religion. I want a faith that is considered dangerous by our predictable and monotonous culture. (Mike Yaconelli, Dangerous Wonder)

Dangerous is as dangerous does. We are so comfortable we are without strength. We are so safe we are dangerous. Embracing risk as a comfort would given us nights of better sleep. I like his quote. Idealistic, foolish, so young, foolish and brave. Love it.

Someone wrote recently that the missing element in the western church is spiritual fervor and passion. As a pastor I would agree. My crowd is faithful.. but certainly not passionate. Peace-Pen

Why is that do you think Pen?

Because we were un-oppressed middle of the road methodists who feel nothing... We show up, warm a seat and then go home. It really is quite depressing.

Hi, Got here from somewhere else. Pen, interesting as thats the way a lot of people feel about 'church'. do you have any ideas on how to get your 'church' to a point of being radical? Lucy

Radical Church now thats good,a gut punching, hanging on by your fingertips faith... praying, getting the watchmen together at 2 in the morning.Stomping spiritual strongholds through tears and faith filled prayer as the Spirit directs and seeing people set free!Getting serious about the faces around me,asking Him for "The least of the least" Bring them on Lord! then start loving them...I mean really loving them. The costly kind of love...that breaks people, makes them uncomfortable,it's messy,yuk...but Jesus is in it.I like radical.

Radical ChristianityI found this quote on the The Dying Church but it's original source was the Backyard Missionary. I don't know if the rest of what Mike Yaconelli writes is any good but this is very inspiring. I'd love to see...
