Farewell to our neighbors

040704.jpg We live in a tiny bungalow in southwestern Toronto. I love living here. The house is small, but it has character. We've got a huge backyard, we're close to everything (you can see the CN Tower from the street), and traffic is minimal. One of the best things about our neigborhod has been our neighbors. Bob and Frances lived here long before we moved in 13 years ago. Bob's what you would call a character. I won't recount some of the funnier stories of things he's done, but it's been interesting. He and his wife have been neighbors anyone would be lucky to have. This Thursday, they're moving out. We decided to throw an impromptu party for them Sunday night. This is a picture of some who attended. We enjoyed cake, coffee, grape juice, and a lot of laughter. I don't know why we waited 13 years to have all these people over. It's probably one of the best things I've done with my Sunday night (including going to church) in a very long time.

Sounds like my May 24 weekend experience. It is a shame we don't spend more time with the people who live around us. Whoever said it was right. "The longest missionary journey is the one across the street." Ought not to be though.

We just returned home from vacation on Sunday. After we unpacked my wife went outside to talk with our neighbor, Sandy. Sandy said, "I've missed you all so much. I am going to make you dinner tomorrow." I felt such love eating that meal. I was blessed tremendously. I'd like to pass that feeling on. I've added a link on my blog to you two.

Is that David Miller with his head turned away from the camera?
