This post is from the defunct blog "Dying Church"

We have made following Jesus all about being a good church member. (Reggie McNeal, The Present Future)

Its not about numbers? Really. We have between 2 and 3 people in the pews. Its been that way for over a year. I have issues.

Greg: That's an impossible situation. I'm sure there are issues. I'll be praying for you. Given that some of God's most faithful servants have been martyrs, you can't always measure faithfulness by results. God uses weakness - weak churches and weak people. That gives me a lot of hope.

I'm reminded of a quote by Mother Teresa of Calcutta -- "My Lord did not call me to be successful; My Lord called me to be obedient." If we allow God to work through us instead of thinking we have to do all the work, we can relax knowing it's God's church and God's people and God's responsibility to be faithful to bring the work to completion... which the Word says God will do. Although I have to admit... that's easier to say than to do. :)
