The missional church

Pigs are flying: our denominational rag has published an excellent article called The missional church (PDF). There's a disclaimer at the start ("Mark's conclusions will seem too radical for some, even contrary to sound bibical exegesis"), but it's in there, and the discussion has started. Encouraging stuff. Update: Someone's e-mailed me to suggest that "denominational rag" is a bit insulting to those who put it together. Actually, the magazine is better than it's ever been, and we actually pay to receive it. My surprise is not that the magazine published a good article. My surprise is that the missional church is being discussed in my circles. That is good and encouraging -- I hope something comes from it.

Hey Darryl ... that IS encouraging. Mark is a great guy, a thinker, and a missiologist, humble too! When you finally visit us out here in Victoria ( after you stop and see Jordon in SK ) you can visit Mark. He is just 15-20 minutes up the road. Isn't "rag" a kind of affectionate term in the magazine publishing business?

I guess it's up to the folks who put the mag together to decide whether they are 'insulted' or not, but I can say as a media person, it is far from an insult. It is an insider term, and an warm one.It is a term of peership, professional comradery. Since you have professionally published, I can't see how you used the term in a derogratory way.

Hey Darryl, great discussion over there, the kind of stuff we have discussed here eh? I posted over there as well, just couldn't resist. I see there is a Jim Resse that has an article in the magazine. Is that the Jim that is the founder of Christian Horizons, do you know? How can I get a copy of that magazine? Is there a group from your church going to the Promise Keeper's event this week-end?

Yes, that's the same Jim Reese. I think we have a couple of guys going to the conference. I don't know if they send out single copies of the magazine. I can send you the address if you'd like.
