The question
Friday, October 29, 2004 at 12:20AM Can your church group put a sign out the front, or an advertisement in the paper saying, "We teach people who have chosen to follow Jesus how to do all He commanded them to do?" (Dallas Willard)Found via Andrew Hamilton

I would have no problems putting that sign up. However, I do know of a number of Baptist Pastors who would object to the theology behind the phrase "people who have chosen to follow Jesus", and would therefore probably object to using such a sign. Jacob.
I think one could definately go up outside of our church. There might be some small issues with the wording, as our church has an open door policy, and welcome unbelievers and believers alike. But the point, they do teach how to live as Jesus taught.
I understand the point behind the Willard's comment...however, in terms of the reality of it...I really don't think many people who don't know Jesus, would really care if a church had such a sign in front of it or not. If they care at all, they're more interested in whether they'd be welcomed and accepted in our churches.
The question isn't, do we agree it it, it is, "is it true".
ed.. you do make a good point.. but I want to mention something also.. Alot of people I know who are non-christians are that way because of bad church experiences. Churches that we've all known at one point or another. I'm inclined to think that if a church had a sign out front saying they taught how Jesus did, they might be more apt to stop and look than one who doesn't.
I've heard Dallas make that statement. He goes on to answer his own question and admit that there isn't a church in America (his words) that he is aware of that could honestly put the sign up.
