God uses weakness

My rant today at LeadingDyingChurches.com:
Sure, we can learn from some of what business does (all truth is God's truth), but these days the Christian world seems so enamored with emulating the business world, so that our churches start to resemble well-run corporations with franchises - miniature versions of Motorola or IBM - rather than the broken and wounded Body of Christ. I can't get over the fact that Christ came to us in weakness and eschewed the powerful and chose fishermen and tax collectors. He talked being poor in spirit and opposed every worldly structure of success. He washed feet and ultimately gave up his life in the greatest display of weakness this world has ever seen (God dying). more
By the way, if you send me a letter, don't start it off by calling me a "pace-setting church leader".

Rant on - - I received that same letter yesterday and felt some of those same things! I've been preaching about some "heroes" in the Bible and keep coming back to that passage in 2 Cor. I expect it is another of those "tensions" to keep in mind as one does ministry.

I interviewed Micheal Wilson when he was Finance Minister. I remember my last question to him. "Mr. Wilson, you are a member of the most hated government in Canadian history. What does your family think about what you do?" He gave me the smooth party line. A few years later, I heard that his son committed suicide. Micheal Wilson now tries to raise money for mental health issues and says it is the hardest job he has ever done. I wish I could talk to him now. Keep ranting Darryl, keep ranting.
