Death

Charlene's grandmother died on Monday. We went to see her last week. She was 91, and had stopped eating a few days earlier. She slept the entire time we were there. I stayed for a while, but then took Josiah out to McDonalds. There's only so much that a little kid can handle (not to mention his father). Charlene spent hours there. She brushed her hair, moistened her mouth. At one point, her grandmother opened her eyes and focused on Charlene. It was about as nice a goodbye as could be expected under the circumstances. Now she's gone. Tonight, we looked at old black and white pictures of her. Life is truly very short, and when you get a glimpse of that, it's also very precious.
