Sermons I wish I'd preached
Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at 3:21PM
I'm doing a sidebar for an article of mine on sermon plagiarism. The sidebar is on sermons that others preached that I wish I had. In other words, sermons I wish I'd stolen. I have my own list, but I'm open to your nominations. Any sermons - either recent or historical - that have been so good that you wish you had preached them? You don't even have to be a preacher to answer this one. Note: I don't want to get into the morality of sermon plagiarism here. That's not the point of the sidebar. I'm just asking what sermons have been so good that you'd be tempted to steal them.

Almost anything by Andy Stanley. Remember the "Foolproof" sermon we heard? "State of the Heart Leadership" at Catalyst was good too. "Grabbing the Tassles" by Rob Bell was memorable. Most of the sermons I hear that strike me that way are so simple that I'm left thinking, "Hey, I could have preached that!" Not sure why I haven't yet, but...
You know... I don't know that I think of sermons in the right way to be able to answer this question directly. Sure, I've heard sermons preached and wished I could have done as well. But I don't write down the preacher's name, the date, and the title of the message. If I did try to think back to great sermons, they would be individual sermons from guys who don't have websites, don't "publish" their messages, and probably haven't been heard of by anyone outside of their church. *shrug* Not trying to be negative about your post. It's a good question. Just thinking about it out loud. :)
But isn't that great, Kevin? The best sermons probably haven't been preached by Christian celebrities. That's good news to me.
i would have liked to preach"Born2Raze(destroy)Hell" by Rod Parsley
