Leadership Summit

I haven't posted too much this week. I've been attending the Willow Creek Leadership Summit since Thursday. I also wrote a university exam today, on top of some other chores. It's been crazy.

I almost didn't want to attend this year's Summit (conferenced out), but it was worth it - especially the last day. Some highlights:

"When in revelation has God ever given an easy assignment? Never. God never gives a leader an easy task." (John Ortberg)

"People want to know, how honest, how true are you? If all we offer is more solutions, people aren't interested. They know there are no easy answers." (Dan Allender)

"As a leader, my primary task is to live the Gospel before you. I'm marked, marred, and being remade." (Dan Allender)

"The more you tell your failure in appropriate ways, the more God's character can be revealed." (Dan Allender)

"I would be a seriously abbreviated leader if I only used by logical, rational brain." (Claudia Kennedy)

"Worse than a bad decision is a bad decision made slowly." (Kirbyjon Caldwell)

"Resistance, complaints, inertia, will never be overcome by a passionless leader." (John Ortberg)

"A church can drift from mission to complaint management over time." (John Ortberg)

"If someone has an emotional cup that's empty, try to fill it. If it can't be filled, try diversionary and distractive activities." (Claudia Kennedy)

The song that connected most - Enough, written by Gary Ferguson, and especially appropriate for those leaders (like me) who feel driven to be and do more than we should, often for unhealthy reasons:

And what I have will be enough for me
